Film descriptionFor years, Lance Armstrong shone as the heroic athlete who triumphed seven consecutive times in the world’s toughest cycling race, the Tour de France. Most simply dismissed any doubters of this superhuman feat since the world needed positive role models and Armstrong was considered a champion, an inspiration, and a philanthropist, the man who beat cancer and cheated death. It turns out he also successfully cheated millions of people: a few months ago, in a television interview with Oprah Winfrey, he admitted using performance-enhancing drugs. Director Alex Gibney had also bought into Armstrong’s myth, and in 2008 began work on a documentary about the cyclist’s phenomenal comeback. In the end, his monument in film became a painful document about the biggest fraud in sports history.
