Information about directorAlan Crosland Director Alan Crosland was born in 1894. Before moving into film, he had been a reporter for the ‘New York Globe’ newspaper, as well as a theater actor. In 1912, he began to work at New York’s Edison Studios, where he debuted as a director of short films two years later. In 1925, he moved to Warner Brothers studios, where he would make a lasting impact on cinema. In The Jazz Singer, he brought sound to the movie screen, following up with color innovations in the musicals On with the Show! and The Song of the Flame. Crosland died in a car accident at the age of 41.
