“I like to put people into situations that are out of their comfort zone and see what happens. It’s like a little lab experiment, and this idea of somebody who works intimately with bodies of strangers on a regular basis suddenly reaching a threshold - because skin is weird, and bodies are freaky,” says Lynn Shelton in an interview for vulture.com. And she makes a film where problems with acceptance of physicality become a beautiful metaphor for fear of intimacy. Her moving comedy is about an ever-independent masseuse named Abby, her anal-retentive brother and dentist, and his introverted daughter, Jenny. It is a charming film about coming to terms with yourself, breaking barriers and emotions that cause you to lose control.
