CastZac Efron, Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham Film descriptionA small Iowa town surrounded by cornfields, a family farm passed down from generation to generation and the age-old conflict between father and son. The setting of At Any Price begs for comparisons with Elia Kazan’s East of Eden, while the main character, aptly named Dean, evokes James Dean in Nicholas Ray’s Rebel without a Cause. Bahrani eschews nostalgic and warm-hearth images in favor of raw, cold and almost television-like esthetics. In the lead, he casts Zac Efron who, until recently, had been associated purely with Walt Disney Pictures teen-age musicals. Bahrani plays with American myths and boldly shows a corrupt, ugly (literally and figuratively) land of the Founding Fathers. Prepared by: Karolina Pasternak |
