Film description

One of the biggest stars of the 20th century, Valentino Liberace, who was of Polish origin, was also the highest paid artist in the world from the 1950s to the 1980s. His garish and kitschy costumes inspired Elvis Presley, Elton John, Madonna and even Lady Gaga. The fantastically wealthy and talented celebrity hid his homosexuality from the world and it is Liberace's convincing, moving, and secret love story that makes up the film’s central axis. Behind the Candelabra premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and, while it garnered raves for technical proficiency (many of the props originally belonged to Liberace), most critics praised performances by Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. Despite both actors’ extensive oeuvres, many reviews hailed, without hyperbole, their efforts in Behind the Candelabra as lifetime achievements.
