CastLaurence Ferlinghetti, Anna Halprin, George Kuchar, Jack Foley, Alex Gildzen Film description"Ecstasy for all" demands James Broughton, a San Francisco experimental filmmaker, poet, queer activist and bohemian, who remains unfamiliar to the masses but who blazed the trail for the flower child revolution. Best known as the director of Bed, a funny short starring (unsurprisingly) a bed, filled with entwined naked bodies. Nudity, love, laughter, tough, sunshine: pure pleasure; those are precisely the pillars of Broughton’s philosophy, who believes you can attain spiritual enlightenment through carnal pleasure. Eric Slade’s and Stephen Silha’s film documents the drama-filled life of the prophet of the Age of Aquarius by presenting a man who follows his inner voice even when it leads his astray. Big Joy is equal part portrait of a remarkable personality as it is an apotheosis of pleasure.
