Film description

Velvet Goldmine is a nostalgia-filled paean and stunning spectacle about the rise and fall of glam rock. Glam was all about esthetic excess but also a gender and sexual revolution that expunged lines between feminine and masculine, gay and straight. Haynes, based on the biographies of glam icons David Bowie and Iggy Pop, constructs a fictional biography of Brian Slade and Curt Wild, in a flickering and collage-like evocative synthesis of glam with literary, cinematic and cultural references to Oscar Wilde, Citizen Kane and Kurt Cobain. Velvet Goldmine is also a delicious musical feast that slams together 1970s icons with 1990s musicians who reference that exceptional decade such as Thom Yorke, Thurston Moore, Brian Molko.
