1982 by Tommy Oliver wins 2.US in Progress Paris. Call for US in Progress Wrocław is open!

The Paris edition of US In Progress came to a close. Sophie Dulac, President of the Champs-Elysées Film Festival, announced that the US independent film 1982 was awarded the “US in Progress” program’s top prize comprising a package of post-production services and distribution support.

1982, directed by Tommy Oliver, tells the story of a black father whose wife succumbs to a crack cocaine addiction and his efforts to shield their 10-year old daughter from the ill effects of having a drug addicted mother.

BFE by Shawn Telford received a special mention. Congratulations!

The “US in Progress” program is a joint initiative between the American Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland, the Champs-Elysées Film Festival in Paris and Black Rabbit Film. The objective of the program is to present American independent films in their post-production phase to potential European buyers in order to encourage their distribution and broadcast across Europe.

Last year’s Wroclaw edition winner Hide Your Similing Faces screened at the Champs-Elysées Film Festival. Last year’s winner A Teacher, by Hannah Fidell, will screen at the American Film Festival in October.

Nominees and winners from last year’s edition of the program have gone on to play at a number of renown festivals around the world.

 - Sundance 2013 featured I Used to be Darker, A Teacher and Milkshake.

- Bluebird and Hide your Smiling Faces screened at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival in April

-  The 2013 T-Mobile New Horizons Film Festival will show both Hide your Smiling Faces and I Used to be Darker.

American filmmakers interested in entering for the Wrocław edition of the program in October still have an opportunity to do so – US in Progress Wrocław takes place during the American Film Festival on October 23-24, 2013. The organizers are looking for US indie soon-to-be-finished films at post-production stage (rough cuts). 6 projects will be screened in the filmmaker/producer’s presence to a group of top European sales agents and post-producers. The call for entries is open till August 15, 2013 with no entry fee.

More information on submission, requirements as well as information on buyers and awards can be found at http://www.americanfilmfestival.pl/artykul.do?id=1604.
